XTDM600E

Post by Theoneandonlymin »

Been trying to start a project for a few years now.
The 3TB is a runner but fancied replicating a bike I saw on ebay.
TDM850 rolling chassis just turned up at the right price and will sell off what I don't need.
Photos tell the story and I'll get back to you in a few years !!!!. Kinda busy with other stuff at the moment .

Couldn't resist trying the front end.
TDM yokes and stem are a straight swap.
Makes life easy.

Bit of progress since we last spoke. Obviously it's not a priority in my workshop.
To line up the rear wheel involved remaking the spacers to move the TDM wheel across. Then to line up the rear spocket, the carrier had to be machined down a bit. The mounting studs were replaced with bolts to clear the swinging arm. The caliper holder needed a bit of relief to clear the disc. Which was machined to let the button head bolts recess.
Working on the front at the moment. Which as ever had a few unseen problems.
I'll be back.

Got any pictures of this?

As someone who's spent good time fitting a 3TB/4PT motor into an '83 600z 34L I'm interested to see how you've managed it.

Thanks

Ed

To keep the original brake caliper mounting, I've spaced it out with a piece of stainless. You can see the milled relief to clear the mushroom head bolts, which are also recessed into the disc. When i get a moment I'll turn up a new spacer as I'm packing it over with a washer to line it up perfectly.

This afternoon I span the bike around in my workshop and swapped over the front end. I'd checked for problems on a spare frame.
1/ I had fork stops welded onto the bottom yoke as the TDM set up is different.
2/ the ignition switch needed relieving to clear the lock part on the frame.
3/ installed new head race bearings, TDM and XT are compatible.
Excellent
