Hi,

my 3AJ has been leaking sporadically for the last 2 weeks.
The oil droplets are coming from the bottom of the frame. See pic. It's marked in red.
I thought that the tube above the red square was coming form the engine breather but it's actually from the carburettor and absolutely dry so it's not the perputrator.



A friend said it's probably related to that oil sludge build up on the left. But I cleaned it off a few days ago and it's still leaking occasionally.
The leaking oil is fresh (I changed it a few weeks ago) and not black and sludgy.
I touched the entire area around it, frame and the suspension linkages. Apart from some grease those were clean.
The skid plate is clean too so it's not coming from the engine.
I checked the oil tank but apart from grease it's relatively clean. I'm absolutely out of ideas.

Last week I also dropped the bike and the leaking gas also had some oil in it as the resulting stain didn't dry off.
I don't think that's related to the leak though

it could be from so many sources - if you really need to know i would remove engine guards and give the bike a good degreasing - i would start by checking oil pipes, shaft seals and air box breathers with a clean hot engine. good luck

After degreasing you can dust the area with some baby powder, so it can be seen earlier/better where the oil comes from. Looks loke seal behind the sprocket or neutral switch to me.

Agree with you Andy sprocket seal seems likely ,like the tip about baby powder - I must admit to leaving the sprocket seals given free chain oiler but not too difficult to do though!

....Ive had a bad run with neutral switches on a couple of bikes, these continue leaking when bike parked up and leaving the annoying drops of oil when parked in my spare bedroom!
