I thought this might be useful to you guys with a common engine.
I got round to removing the` hidden` filter on my MZ 660 Mastiff this morning, i couldn`t believe how much rubbish was behind it!
I`ve had inline filters at times and actually took them off thinking they were the problem to apparent fuel starvation.
This is about 20,000 miles of accumulated crap in the photo, most of which appeared to be fine fibres.
I think the biggest obstacle to accessing the filter is the float pivot pin removal, which comes out in the OPPOSITE direction of the arrow on the support pillar. I applied heat with a small flame, some penetrating oil, and knocked it out with a pin and hammer.

Crikey that's a lot of crap, yes i have been preaching that since 2011 (every year without fail) float needle valve filter i was feeling like a bloody parrot i have mentioned it so many times, and not just on this forum.

So that`s good you have posted this, it's a good reminder to guys who miss this sneaky little bastard.

I got rid of inline paper filter since I had to clear up a mess like that, I am running metal gauze or sinter filters since, and had no fibres in the carb since.
I would think the filter paper loses them ...

Very interesting Andy, i was wondering where them fibres were coming from, the paper filter, makes sense.

I just nicked (stole) the image from Google years ago Andy.

EDIT: You should also add to remove the filter to grab & pull at the same time turning to left & to right at the same time, in english term we say "to wiggle it out"

Hi guys.

My first post on your forum (I think!) As i say i have an MZ Mastiff with the same setup.
I`ve never come across such a filter before, AND it`s been made difficult to access as well!
I still rather fancy replacing the current setup with the single carb i have off a XR650R!

you also could see it as a last resort, saving you from opening the carb several times due to dirt getting into it.
by the way as the filter is easiest to access with carb removed, you simply can turn the carb upside down and flush it with some brake cleaner and compressed air when the float valve needle is removed - no need to take it out really.
