Hi all. This might be a stupid question, but I simply cannot find a new ignition coil for my 1VJ. Part number 1VJ-82310-50.
My local Yamaha dealer says they are out of stock, and the only website I found who advertised having one sent me a 2KF coil instead.
Do you know where I can find an ignition coil for my 1VJ, or if there are any replacement parts? Do you know of any other coils I can swap with?
Cannot find 1VJ ignition coil to buy

Oops, i deleted my last post as i cocked up, yours will be the two wire coil & i sent a link to the single wire.
Yours is the same as the 3AJ & KEDO also sell them, enter 30329 in the search box.
Mezo.

Re: Cannot find 1VJ ignition coil to buy
It is a two-wire coil, but the design is slightly different, see pic below.
Mounting the new coil shouldn't be a big problem, I'm just a little bit worried that the CDI might take damage due to the coil resistance not being the same. Is this a part swap that has been done before?

I'm unsure also (never owned a 1VJ) possibly another 1VJ owner can chime i & answer your query.

The one I had from wemoto was a completely different fitting so ended up using a 'good' used spare, unsure what the rating was. I think they sell them as generic xt600 coils without knowing there are differences in ignition.....

Well that's plain false advertising then.jibber wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2020 8:03 amThe one I had from wemoto was a completely different fitting so ended up using a 'good' used spare
Anyone got info on the KEDO ones?

Re: Cannot find 1VJ ignition coil to buy
I've had this problem twice.
Bought what was advertised as a 1VJ XT 600 coil and it's comes as the generic coil from Wemoto.
Tried again with Brooks Barn and similar thing happened.
I bought the real one as in the photo with the rubber mount boot new from German eBay.

Re: Cannot find 1VJ ignition coil to buy
1VJ and 3AJ have electrically the same ignition. The frame mount may be different, and the pickup plug I believe (round versus spade).
The earlier models had a similar CDI ignition coil as well (34L, 55W) which is different by about 10%.
The earlier engines have a different stator due to no electric start, so I think putting more coils on the stator had them change the packaging, and they went for slightly different coil windings there.
3TB Kickstart model of the XT600 (1991 or so) is electrically VERY similar (while the electric start model is way different)
Here are the primary/secondary ignition coil resistance values:
3AJ
0,15-0,21/3,84-5,76K
1VJ
0,15-0,21/3,84-5,76K
55W
0,23-0,38/3,4-5,2K
34L
0,23-0,38/3,4-5,2K
3TB Kickstart
0,15-0,21/3,84-5,76K
2KF
0,23-0,38/3,4-5,2K
43F
0,23-0,38/3,4-5,2K

The Ignition coil IC-CDI-F seems to be close
