Hello all… newbie here with my first post.

I am currently restoring a 34L cum 55W Tenere (it seems to be a mixture of both) and have a few queries regarding certain points…

Please excuse my apparent mechanical ignorance with these questions by the way.

First off, I am trying to work out of there is a simple way to separate the brake caliper from the backing plate. I would like to split it right down to component parts for powder-coating but I am buggered if I can work out how to do it. I had two and now I only have one due to brute force and ignorance!

And secondly, does anyone know a way of making the seat fit the tank like it did when it was new?

I have fitted a David Lambeth seat cover and made a deliberate effort not to contort the seat base or foam. I warmed the cover to give it a bit of a stretch etc. Now the seat looks great off the bike, but on it there now appears to be a 1/4" gap twixt tank and the top of the seat.

Oh, the trials and tribulations eh?

Hi Andy...

To split the caliper.... there's an 8mm bolt at one end... remove that & it should slide off the pin at the other end... as for the seat cover, I've seen a few seats fitted with those seat covers.... they all seem to do that...

That bolt was already removed so i am guessing the two parts are just seized together by years of crud. The whole bike was a basket case, so it shouldn't come as a great surprise.

Yep them seats all do that (ive got four 34L`s) and everyone has that gap at the front of the seat when you sit on it.

Its looks shithouse i know & Dan had the very same problem on his 34L resto, i think over time the plastic base wears & becomes flexible.
My idea or solution (when i get round to recovering) was to add some kind of strength to the inside, possibly firbreglass or something?

Ive seen 34L seat on ebay where people have done a half arsed bodge on the underside of the seat & it looks crap.

So the only way i see is to remove the foam, make it stronger with something?? and permanent, then refit the foam & new cover.

Ive not, but there was one at two wheel wreckers in Perth, may have sold by now? I will keep an eye out for you.
