big bore kit

Hello Im new to the forum

I recently moved to south america and bought me a xt 600 e 2003

I also went ahead and purchased a wiseco big bore kit 101mm

I would like to ask for advice on what else i need in order to get some decent gains interms of cams and fuel
any feed back would be great

To get a 101mm piston in these you need a new sleeve that's oversized for the big bore then you have to take the old sleeve out and have someone remachine the cylinder to accept the big bore sleeve. You can't bore the existing sleeve out 6mm . Unless you have free access to machine work it won't be worth the gain, your better off going with a 98mm 10.5:1 comp piston , a little more cc's plus some extra compression without being too much. The bottom engine case then also need to be machined for the 5mm bigger sleeve to fit down into ,also the head should have the combustion chamber messaged some for the bigger bore size to keep the proper squish band , a lot of work and it'll get quite costly to pay someone to do it , not worth it.

I have one of those 101mm Wiseco pistons at home myself and a Raptor 660 sleeve for the cylinder , but I do my own machining so cost is nothing , just time , but too many other projects.

Are you racing this bike? (motard) or just for every day commuter use?

I come from a performance engine family, so i know a little about engines & how much it costs

To get full gains you need to do the intake (FCR Flatslides) the head (porting) the cam & the exhaust, and it has to be done right.

You would need to use quality fuel & oil, you need to pay attention to cooling & make sure your squish is correct (around 1mm) to prevent detonation (overheating)

There is a lot of work & expense involved in tuning an engine, and if your wanting reliability you may consider keeping it standard & buying say a KTM for fun.

I would caution you against such mods. unless you really need the extra power. It will always cost you some reliability.

Are you able to get hi-octane fuel (98+) in Columbia easily? Cheaply? Detonation could destroy your brand new engine in minutes.

Technically my 3TB in the '86 frame is a 100mm bore XT , only I used a Raptor 11.5:1 piston . So far other than the carbs freezing up it's been dead reliable . It' at 5k and a little thus far , gets a little warm in the summer. Doubt it'll last 20k , but hope to see, it is a test motor . Remarkable torque compared to my stocker , limited hugely by the carbs, though even geared very high will pop the front wheel up with barely a 1/8 turn blip of the throttle. It does become a never ending need of the next thing "should be upgraded to match the motor " annoyance.

I want to thank you guys for all your help
Here in colombia i just opened a machine shop so i have free access to machine work and labor cost is very low here
the reason im asking is because here they are really into supermoto and im trying to build a bike for the track ..but some reliabilty would be nice because the mountain roads here are amazing..and i like to go out on the weekends..

does anyone know where i could get a sleeve and anyother parts that i may need

You might want to visit a local truck/tractor engine repairer and ask if they can help. They would be re-sleeving engines all the time.
