i bought a nice 3aj. I has a small probleme though: after a few meters, the speedometer starts to make a frightening spinning sound, like a drill in metal. I first thought it was the cable and bought a new one, but it didnt change anything. There is no other visible effect, the speedo works, but the sound is really loud. Removing the cable "solves" the problem.

any advices on what could possibly cause that? I ride without the cable, it's not a real problem but i would like to solve this anyway.

i think i'll have to disassemble the dashboard, but the screws holding the fairings to the frame seem to turn inside the fairings plastic.

If you can take the speedometer out, tip it upside down and put some thin'ish oil in where the cable goes, leave it sit for as many days as you can to let the oil seep. A #2 square drill driver in a drill can spin the speedometer while it is upside down to help work the oil down in there. You can also get limited access to some of the inner workings through one or 2 of the dash light holes. With a long tip you can drip a few droplets of light oil on the gears, just don't get too crazy with how much oil gets in there and that none drips on the lens inside, it's hard to clean out.

As stated above, you can use 3 in 1 oil or sewing machine oil. When spinning up, use reverse on your drill to spin the correct direction. This is a very common problem.

My 350 lc does same from rev counter..little oil was the answer..

Good evening.I think my 3aj has just started with the same problem.Didn't know what was going on.I couldn't get the bike to make the noise at standstill to investigate but when riding it would kick in now and then, and seemed to be coming from high up.Bloody tank,seat and fairing off again to do but I have some heated grips with a dash control to install.Please keep updates posted if you get your problem sorted.
