Does anybody here have one of those 6 gallon Clarke or Acerbis tanks for the 43F laying around that they'd like to sell? I currently have the 4 gallon version but I'd really like to get set up with the 6 gallon tank for long treks into the wild.

I found a gentleman in Germany selling an Acerbis 23L tank that was mounted to his 2KF XT600.

Comes with mounting hardware!

Looks to be the right depth to fit the frame and seat configuration

He does not know if it will fit the 43F models and neither do I. Mark, I think you were part of some discussion about this many moons ago on a horizons unlimited post.

Does anybody have experience with these big Acerbis tanks and mounting them? I would love to have this tank work for me. Also he only seems to want to ship to Europe. Anybody out there in the Eurozone want to be an intermediary for shipping this tank to the US?

I did have a look on ebay (USA) yesterday & found nothing, your problem is with shipping will be "dangerous goods" Scott, but i think that will fit? i think?

Oliver may chime in soon, he knows tanks better than myself.

Mezo.

I saw another one of those 19 liter tanks for sale alongside the 23 liter tank here.

Basically the same price. It would be nice to have the extra liters of the 23L though. I guess it's just a matter of if it will fit or not

Did some comparative research on ebay and I think the 43F 19 liter tank and the 2KF 23 liter tanks are interchangeable. I bid on a 19 liter tank a few months ago that was owned by a guy from Michigan who had it mounted to his 1987 XT600. If the model codes on wikipedia are correct then that was a 2KF or 2NF bike. Conversely the 23 liter tank I'm trying to buy is coming off of a 2KF bike. Therefore if the older tank fits on the newer bike then the newer tank should fit on the older bike. I hate being the first to try things when it involves a lot of money but I like my odds here. Wish me luck. :fireball:

The 2kf are more or less the European version of our E models , different frame ,tank and plastics. Don't really know how an aftermarket take will bolt up, I couldn't just drop on a steel tank from my kicker bikes to my E frame.

Hmm. What was off when you tried to mount the steel tank fromb one bike model to the other? What did not line up?

The biggest issue is the oil tank in the frame makes it wider than the older ones with the tank back by the rear wheel. There are also a couple oil feed tubes for that oil tank, that come out of the frame up there that the gas tank has to clear on the "E" models. The 2KF is the earlier model to the 3TB , US "E" models are like those, or a combo of the 2. The 43F is our 3EW ('84-'89).

Here's the site that shows some of the difference in how models look http://www.tt600r.de/tt-kiosk/xt.htm

Depending how the plastic tanks are actually made or mounted , it may be possible to make some mounts that would allow it to fit , it will be plenty wide if it was for a 2KF to fit down on the 43F frame. Some extensions for the front bosses to widen the frame mount points. How the seat will fit to the tank, I don't know.
