hi!

has anyone tried to make both headlights work as one?
I would like to be more visible in the traffic and I think this will do, but I don't know how to do it and does it works?

On UK spec models both headlights come on at the same time anyway
Both lamps need twin filament bulbs (high and low beam), you just add a wire from the low and high beam wires to the other buld.
The difficult bit is finding where the extra wire is connected, if you get it wrong or use too thin a wire you could melt the loom
I'll see if I can find the split on mine later.

The down side of having twin headlights is at night people think you are a car in the distance not a bike up close.

Correct me if im wrong Rick, are there two different headlight looms for your model? in the part fiche.

And to do this conversion you would need to make sure both headlights are the same type, some euro models are yellow & some are high beam only (on the one light that is normally off).

He would need to purchase an identical light which is "always on" & physically fit that & then wire them together (very easy) make sure you solder & heat shrink connection.

I've not seen a complete parts fiche for the 4MY, everything I've found either uses dealer part numbers, not yamaha, or is for the 3YF. Would have thought there are at least 2 different looms considering the different laws in different countries

I'm fairly sure the lights are handed, left and right, so you can't fit a left lamp into the right side of the fairing. I'll check tomorrow when I look at the loom.

I was thinking about the current going through the original wire, doubling the draw could melt the loom, suppose it depends on the rating of the original wire and what wattage bulbs krc wants to use.

I went & looked at this ONLINE FICHE just to see how many variants, think it was the original & then if page down there is a horizontal sliding page mover, i counted 8 variants (different countries)

The main headlight loom 4MY-8435900-00 is different part number to various countries, and so is the headlight lens different numbers to suite regulations, yes throwing the light the correct direction (to the kerb).

I don’t see any loading issue on the wiring Rick, its not additional lighting per say just piggybacking off the other to do the same function, the load will be the same (slightly higher on high beam, additional filament) with both working together (mirror).

At the moment he has one headlight working with H4 Hi/LO, and the headlight that is only coming on on high beam is singular element, by swapping the right lens to a HI/LO lens & not just High beam & fitting a H4 hi/lo lamp he will gain two elements always on & then all four elements when he hits high beam with both lights working.

You have two options, buy a used main headlight (left side) lens from ebay (for right hand drive roads) and wire them yourself (not difficult) or try & buy the correct loom & lens from your Yamaha dealer (explain what your doing).

If your unsure about wires & soldering i can help you there, just ask.

The left is what you have, the right is what you need, six inches of 1.5mm cable & a female spade connector (minus insulation) and a soldering iron.

Those colours are from 3AJ, your colours may vary? black is always black (negative) one is main/driving bean or blue in this case and the yellow is high beam.

Yep, don't know why I was making it complicated

So all that is needed is a new right hand side lamp that will take a twin fillament bulb.
Look for FZR600/1000 lights with the flat lens aswell as XTZ, more available.

I did the exact same thing on my 3aj a few years ago. Since i was changing all my old wires i made my headlights with relay´s. Mine (europe) was born with H4 in one of the headlights and only H1 (highbeam) in the other. So i needed to find another H4 lamp for the other side. There is a different Mount for the right and left side lamp so it had to be the right one. I found a lamp at Ebay for a TDR 125 that had the exact lamp i was looking for. Hope this helped you a Little bit.
