I have just taken delivery of the 1vj having found it on E-Bay.



As you can see it has a fairing fitted.


It is made by a company called Stilmotor in Italy.


The bike seems to be in reasonable order and just a bit rough around the edges. There's that home-made side panel, taped up indicators, rusty spokes and a very noisy Micron exhaust.




The tank is obviously well used!



Front mudguard isn't too bad


Screen is OK and one of the mirrors is broken


There' a strange spot light fitted to one side of the fairing and the indicators don't appear to be the originals.


The fairing is attached to well made triangulated brackets.


with another bracket for the headlamp clamped around the headstock


This bike isn't going to be a full on restoration, it's really just a doer upper so I'll just add developments here as I go along.

We all saw that bike in the "Spotted on ebay" section of the forum Tim.

So how much did you get it for? from memory he was asking around 900 quid?

Just been looking around on the web and can't find out much about this fairing, just three other pics.

First stage progress.

Spare seat fitted to replace the ripped original, spare pair of mirrors fitted and a spare side panel fitted to replace the home made job that was on the bike. Also put vinyl stickers on the bottom of the fairing in order to continue the line of the tank stripes and took off that wierd spot light (which wasn't connected anyway!).

Also polished up the front mudguard which came up quite well.

Off with the old Micron exhaust, although there isn't much left of it as most of it seems to be holes and patches!






Got an OE front pipe from E-Bay


It's not 100% but then nor is the rest of the bike!

Needed a bit of welding here and there.


Looks OK once painted


Tacho cable was missing (apart from this end bit!) so a new one of those went in. I don't like the look of those oil pipes, think I will have to take them off and give them a check over.


Found these on E-Bay in Italy. They're in such good condition it's hard to imagine why the bike that they came off was broken.


Anyway, as you may have guessed from the above pic, I have decided to take off the fairing and go back to the original headlight cover.

So it was off with the fairing and its associated brackets. I found that some of the wiring had been extended, I think because the headlamp is mounted further forward in the fairing so I can remove a lot of the bodged connectors. I suppose that many moons ago, someone was so I excited about fitting his new fairing to his bike that he didn't bother to do a decent job on the electrics.

The indicator isn't original but it looks period and isn't expensive



Indicator problem, the left and indicator mount which is mounted to the top clamp of the forks incorporates the mount for the choke so it is still there. The right hand one has been removed because it was redundant when the fairing was fitted so now I'm going to have to try to find one or make one


And lastly for this addition is the new Marving exhaust.




Next up will be sorting out that rear carrier and the rear mud guard where the Micron exhaust has melted it, oh and also tackle those oil pipes - watch this space!

And is that the telltale shape of another 600 under the covers in the background....we all know you can't stop at one

Good decision! I don´t like this fairing either.
Allways funny what previous owners do to their bikes...
You are doing a good job. Swapping out some parts ... little bit of cleaning ... and it is like a completly diffrent (nicer) bike!
I would have done the same things.
In fact I did the same refreshing to my newest toy. My 34L.
Maybe I start a thread about it? Time...time...time...

A couple of years ago I bought a complete set of used plastics for my other 1vj.



The "mint" headlight surround wasn't as mint as this one


so that one went on the "good" bike and the not so mint one was kept as a spare and is now on this bike. Same goes for the side panels all of the best bits are on the good bike and this one gets the hand me downs.

Yes Fred the engine is 100% (in fact I think that it sounds in better shape than the good bike!!
