I've managed to strip the threads in one of the captive nuts fixing the fairing to the tank on my 3AJ, i suspect the aftermarket/stainless bolts fitting by the previous owner (which look great) are harder than the original bolts and the steel of the tank and a few tank removals and fittings has finally worn/pulled the threads. I also suspect the other three bolts aren't far behind but since stripping the first i'm been much more careful.

It is currently secured with a couple of zip ties and a length of inner tube but i'd like to get it fixed.

Can anyone suggest a suitable repair? Rivnut?

Yep very common problem, mine was toast on my old tank but the replacement tank had good thread thankfully.

I would simply just over tap the thread, so i think from memory they are 6mm? go 8mm, you could just weld new nuts on but that means draining the tank & filling with water (no explosions)

I personally hate all these bodge fixes on the market (nutsert & helicoils) they never last.

With epoxy I glued a nut in. Longs fantastic.

Chimney nuts-either the slip on or the rivet on types.The rivet on can be fitted using countersunk rivets and then the lug stays the same height or the easier slip on. Pro bolt do them both but ebay will be cheaper.

They're 5mm, easy to tap out to 6mm Mez
