Anyone ever come across these/has experience with 3rd-5th gears from this business?
http://www.moorespeed.co.uk/yamaha-engine
Already enquired about pricing, so will see in that department, but not holding my breath for a bargain!

Well id guess they are 4PT gears?
Dave Lambeth also upgrades his gears with later model but neither of these blokes are going to tell you where they come from.
But ive had no bad reports from either Richard (Moorespeed) or Dave (Rally & Overland) they have built there reputations on doing the job right & using quality parts.

Any result from Morespeed yet?
I have fitted 3YF 5th speed gears to a 34L. That bike has not run yet so we still have to witness the outcome.
However, I have today ordered pair of 3YF 5th gears for my 2kf. Sadly the mixed 5Y1 and 1VJ pair fitted 2+ years ago have lasted just 32000km.
I was learning then
2JT and 3YF 5th gears have different number of teeth. 24 / 19 against the 27 / 21 of older gears, so have to be fitted as a pair. 2JT gears are NLA now.
When fitting 3YF gears to pre 1989 engines room has to be made for the toothed part being wider. 2nd gear on transmission shaft , the plain gear not splined, can be machined narrower. It is 'fatter' towards its centre, so you don't loose any tooth width, just room for a wider 5th.
I have photographed the work but have not made time to figure how to post pics here :-)

Seems no news about Morespeed.
I think Mezo is right. Dave Lambeth had lots of bikes passing thru' his workshop and must soon have figured how to improve the transmission of early XTs.
But the gathering of knowledge started with that ledgend of XT; XTKlaus. Much of his knowledge is posted on Horizons Unlimited and there is a recent look at one of his threads; "Tenere 34L tips" where 5th gear is again discussed.
I have posted photos of 3Yf 5th gears there. Cost from Yamaha ZAR 570 and 600 each excluding tax.
The HUB allow me to post photos and the site loads fast. So next week i plan to start with fitting new gears and will post there.

These ones
"Plain to see they are wider, 11.2 mm to 14mm for pinion"
I notice the 3YF gears have relief cuts (grooves) pity we still don’t know what gears Dave & Richard are using?
Carry on.

Ya, it's unlikely that anyone would tool up to make a few gears unless they're going to sell a thousand or more easily, otherwise each gear would be too pricey by the time they got done testing and such.
I'll get to see if my new 3tb needs them also, supposed to only have 6500 miles on it though.

My thoughts as well, Geoff did try prising the info out of Dave a few years ago but he`s not giving anything away.
And why should he? would you pass on it on? if i was in business id keep that secret as well.
