It has been awhile since 34L rebuild and Mezo mentioned that do a thread on what is currently on my work bench.
All was quite one Sunday morning until the phone rang. Andrew’s on the other end yelling. There is a cheap airhead BM up for sale on gumtree and been there for 14 min. After reading the ad. Basically a one owner, only ridden to church on Sundays with only 189,000 km. What could be wrong with that. Other that the bike was in the middle of nowhere and about 4 hrs away.
Since Andrew started this roller coaster ride. I conned Andrew on a public holiday into a 8hr drive and if the bike was ok. I would ride the BM back home. Well the BM has been owned by a farmer and has spent all its life on rough dirt roads. We met the owner in a car park and from a distance the bike did not look to bad.
Cosmetically the bike look challenged and with quite a few farm made bits. I rode it briefly and the brakes didn’t really work and neither did the indicators. The staintune mufflers have got odd dints in them. The owner goes. Oh yeah, the muffler fell off while riding along the highway and we found the muffler six months later. After the council slashed the grass and dints are from the slasher. Same with the pannier lid, the daughter found it a few months later.
I was mumbling to my self. I think, I should have bought a trailer. Andrew goes where is the adventure in that. After parting with some cash, we were away after filling the tank with fuel. Only if I could get the fuel cap to come to come off or get the stater motor to work, an the clutch is like a light switch. Once out on the highway the BM is a real surprise in being a lot better than it looks. Cruising along at 110-120 kph. The engine an gearbox are super smooth.
This is what, I bought for my money and no idea of what it is going to be when it is finished, a GS, cafe racer, traveling bike. No idea.
Home made improvements
This bike has never seen a garage and been on far more dirt than most of the bikes on ADV. I thought, I had hot washed most of the dirt off before starting to pull the bike a part.
Lots of home made wiring. I never thought of having use a dust mask while pulling a bike apart.
Even has more dirt in places I have never seen on a BM. Don’t know how the electrics ever worked.
Andy Gadget is coming over tomorrow to give a hand to remove the engine from the frame.

Looking like the Tenere in more an more. At least I have a brand new wiring loom for this one,
