FRONT BRAKE CALIPER WTF?

Post by wmoncrieff »

G'day All,

I received my new front brake caliper from partszilla, this is what they sent
Image

this is what I needed..........
Image

part number on box says 34X-2580T-00, partzilla docket says replacement for part 34X-28510-10-00

Anyone have any idea what caliper assembly it is I have? Do I now need to source a set of different model fork legs to suit this $200 part? :banghead:

I'm starting to think I'm :flogging:

Help! :thanks:
Cheers Will.

When you said that you had ordered one from Partszilla in your other thread I checked as I thought that they were obsolete (XT600 84) and they were, so I was wondering what you had ordered. Your part number matches XT350 which is different.

Your old caliper is in real good nick, i don't understand why you won't just clean that up? if you don't want it i'll take it off your hands. :innocent:

And i bet any money Geoff is thinking the same thing.

Buggered if I know what the caliper is for. I got it from boats.net, not partszilla D'oh! On their site it says for the XT225 Serow, among others? The piston size is inch and three eighths, the Tenere one is inch and a half so I guess that means it'll take more lever pressure to achieve the same level of braking :book: FIIK!

I still may be able to get a bracket made to be able to fit it, but really can't do much until I have the front wheel re-installed along with the brake rotor. I'd love to be able to use the new caliper............otherwise it's a farkin $200 paperweight for my home office :tough:

I called in to my other local wrecker on Friday and it looks like the 34L calipers are the same as the period XS roadbikes, but only the left side of course! I already have a set of pads and a rebuild kit for the original caliper but the piston will not budge :banghead: maybe a little C4 would do the trick
Cheers Will.

Have you tried dropping the caliper in boiling water with the master cylinder connected & bled?
Leave it in the water for a few mins so the alley can expand then try pumping the master cylinder.

It might not work but you will feel better having tortured the bastard smile:

I'm sure if you connected your caliper to the master cylinder & bled it it the piston would pump out easily

FRONT BRAKE CALIPER WTF?

Post by GeoffD »

It's the ONLY safe way to remove pistons from brake calipers... You will damage the caliper or the piston trying any other method.
