G'day All,

I've cleaned up the caliper assembly but the piston absolutely refuses to come out

I've ordered a piston kit from Yambits for it, so if the old piston is destroyed it doesn't matter. It is very rusty and pitted. I filled the caliper with WD40 and let it sit for two days, still no budge.

Is there a trick to getting the piston out? I hate working with brakes!

Also, the rubber grommet over the sliding pins are disintergrated. Where would one get these?

The best way to get the piston out is to re-connect the caliper to a master cylinder, bleed & pump it out.

Dave Lambeth sells the seal & rubber cover kits or you could look for a Honda or Triumph that uses the same type of caliper. I think some manufacturers make the slider covers available when Yamaha don't

As a last resort, pump it out with a grease gun.

Well, tried pumping the piston out.................still won't budge. I'm at my wit's end

I'll see if I can find a caliper assembly that isn't frozen/rusted/seized and rebuild that when my piston kit arrives! Aaargh!


Bit the bullet[caliper?] ordered a new one from boats.net ONLY $252 inc freight...............still brakes are important eh

Yeah Mezo, part price was a little cheaper but freight was a lot more One of the pitfalls of living in a country so far away from everyone else eh
