Let me pass on a field expedient I used back in '87 on my 86 XT. First trip to Ouray Colorado with it. All I had was the stock jets which had worked great at Moab the year before. Now the secondary was too rich and I could not get more than about 3500 to 3800 rpm before sputtering. Humm. I dug around my tool box and came up with some .020 size safety wire. I pulled the secondary jet and put the wire thru the hole and put a little curl on each end to keep it in position. Voila, worked perfectly. Full rpm range and good power up to Imogene pass's 13114 feet. I kept the wire and used it for every trip to Colorado without any problems. I've lost the wire somewhere but did find some leaner jets on eBay a few months back. I think I have a 120 and a 125 but have not been to the high country to test them out. I will, of course, take some .020 safety wire just in case.
Interesting your making your own. I'm sure you'll let us know how it turns out, you are in the high country already...

Ya, the 120 and 125's are from California models .

I have acquired 3 x #135, 1 x #130, 1 x #125 & am after a #120 secondary jets. I haven't been able to find a #120 though. I would pay a lot of money for a verified #120. They are the rarest. As for primary mains I have acquired 115, 120, 125,130,132.5 & 135. Pilot jets I have found all need drilling out so I have a collection that starts at #50 with 4 sizes larger.
In addition to messing with my custom secondary jet I will be soldering & drilling two of my #135 jets into jets smaller then #125. I will report back on the details of the soldering. The secondary main is the last jet I have to tune. I am looking forward to leaning it out more then 125 to get some decent clean top end power.
Something I would like to note for the record on TK jets. I read a few places on line & then I reported on a couple forums that the TK jets followed a specific jet orifice size corresponding to the jet number. This is incorrect I have found. Maybe other TK jet series follow such a pattern but real world measurements of my YPV27 jet collection show that the number on the TK jet does not directly transfer as size in mm. I am not sure how TK measures their jets but its kinda wacky from what I have seen.

Probably in flow rate , kind of how Dynajet (IIRC) does, also Keihin.
I have #46 & #48 pilots , the #48 can be gotten easily, the 46 was in one set of carbs I recently acquired. The 48 has aproxx .016" hole ,I couldn't get a .017" wire through but .15 could, Or right in that area, been a bit since I did that, was hoping to partially block it off to lean my '88 out, but kind of hard to find a .002-.005" piece of wire.
I can now try that 46 instead.
Notice how those pilots are only restricted in the middle and each end has a bigger dia. hole? that needs to be duplicated because it does effect flow some.

I just saw this on Ebay...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-5Y1-1434 ... SS:US:1123
$70 for one!!
If I can get any interest I may still get some made as per my earlier post. ($2.75 each) Please let me know.

$2.75 each eh? Well at that price I may be interested depending on the holes you are planning on drilling them to. Are you planning on any increment jet diameter? or are you planning on just using standard drill bits?
Here is the deal. I have a full set of jets right now. I have 48 & 50 OEM pilot jets, a couple pilots to custom drill, 120 to 140 OEM primary main jets, 125, 130 & 135 secondary main jets plus two more 135 secondary mains to custom drill. Now for custom drilling I have all the standard drill bits available in and around all of the sizes of all the OEM jets I have listed. I have a complete set of drill bits #80 0.3429mm through #53 1.5113mm. Since the bits are standard wire gauge they have a queer arrangement of sizes. If you look at this chart on Wikipedia it shows that only various sizes are available but not perfect .05mm increments.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dr ... _tap_sizes
Now, when I want a custom size jet I can use solder and drill bits to make any size of jet orifice from what is available in wire gauge bits. If these standard wire gauge drill bits are what you are planning to drill your custom jets with then I am probably gonna pass on the jet offer. I have plenty of jets to tune with drill bits already.
If on the other hand you intend to machine jets with any jet orifice size then I may be interested in your jets. For example: If you can machine a secondary main jet set that clones the OEM internal shape and is available in 1.00mm to 1.50mm orifice diameter in perfect increments of .10mm then I may be interested in a 6 piece set. 1.00mm, 1.10mm, 1.20mm, 1.30mm, 1.40mm, 1.50mm would be the jets orifice sizes I may be interested in.

Hi.
First post here. I have just bought a 1VJ with only 25000kms on the clock. Looks authentic. Details to follow elsewhere on the forum. I bought the bike close to the med in France at 20m above sea level. I live up at 600m asl. At home it runs rough, around 3500rpm starts to get very lumpy. I never tested it when I bought it but the guy assures me it ran fine and he thinks the altitude is the problem.I have taken the carb off and the diaphragms and all look fine. I have raised both needle clips by 1 groove and will give it a go. (I got carried away cleaning and polishing......) I'm wondering though that the mains should be changed as well. Only now I learn you can't get them, at least for the secondary....... Are are workarounds now available? Somebody must be have set up something in the last few years? Can such a small change in elevation much such a carburation change? I'm a brit so nto used to changing altitudes! (been bikeless for the last 15 years or so). I live near the high cols such as the Col du Galibier etc and would hope to be able to ride them...

I too would be interested in some jets too if you can make them accurate.

Hi there,
finally a guy in Germany took the heart to have some of the jets produced.
They are in the making right now, and will be available in standard sizes, with the option of having special sizes made as well (e.g.118).
He states that there will be a discount for batch orders, so if some guys around here need some jets you could knock up a single order.
The jets are for early Tenere and XT600 bikes with membrane-less secondary carb, pictures can be viewed in the first posting of this thread.
The guy is Markus from Zittau, originally he runs this motorcycle suspension shop:

Just contact him if you are interested.
