I'd also be happy, even happier, if someone chimed in with some info on an alternative ... maybe like that Clarke one I posted a link to.
It will all pan out in the end and I'm in no particular hurry.

Mezo.
Just send GeoffD a PM Marino to make sure your not bidding against each other, id go with the original tin tank personally.

You're right Mezo. I too would prefer a stock tin tank but I'm not going to shaft another forum member to do it and, as I've already said, I'm not that fussed if I end up with an aftermarket one for a while.
I'd like to get the thing back on the road but not at some ridiculous cost, e.g. the $1200 unit from Adelaide!
BTW, I just PM'd GeoffD on it all.

Don't forget, Geoff is very careful with his money. His maximum may not win the tank and you both miss out.

That's handy to know.

I guess I'll just

for Geoff to respond to my PM.
BUT, in the meantime, can't anyone answer if there is an alternative?
Or, is it a bit of a no no to mod the old girls?
Personally, I don't have a lot of time for "that's the way they did it back then and we shouldn't change it" way of thinking especially, if it's stopping me from getting the thing on the road.

Just replied... I wasn't bidding on the tank, go for it Marino...
As I've found during my rebuilds parts ALWAYS turn up eventually, I've got loads of stuff to be getting on with.. I do want to use the standard tin tank though even though it'll probably be the only standard part on the bike....
I was just wondering about the rear racks, I bought a 1VJ rack from Germany a few months ago (also just snaffled a 3AJ one thanks to Itchywheels, cheers mate) & it's identical to Marino's however I noticed the one on Actionman's bike is different

anyone know why... Dave? that one looks like a 3AJ rack...
Good luck with the tank & thanks for thinking about me.... Oh & welcome to the forum ..

Thanks for that Geoff!
I'm still not convinced that a tin tank is the way to go, given their want to rust, especially after so many years of sitting there doing nothing.
And yes, your absolutely correct in saying that the "parts ALWAYS turn up eventually".
I'm off to the ActionMans place this Friday night for bevies and nibbles so we'll see what he and Bernieboy come up with as solution.
Finally, thanks for the welcome. I do love this forums emoticons
