They are called countersunk bolts. Male and female parts are machined to 45 angle. Extremely strong holding method.

Getting the "female " 45 degrees into the sprocket was hard to do. I shouldn´t have bought the cheap tool for it...
As allways: You only get what you pay for.

Getting the Helicoil in was easy. (but expensive)

What you needed was a decent COUNTERSINKING tool.

This type is crap. Suitable only for wood or thin steel.


This type kicks arse on steel and aluminium.

By the way , I call this thread "bastard" because the bike was a TT 600 36A when delivered from the factory. Then (back in the eighties) somebody turned it into a 59X by changing the whole Frame and by adding the single caliper discbrake (59X). In the same process this person became the manufacturer in the papers. (Don´t ask.... it´s german law) Yamaha is out !
I wish I had the original drumbrake. I´m very good in making them brake adequate. I like the simplicity of the drumbrake.
They are hard to find, it seems. Never saw one on Ebay or such.
But I was able to get my hands on the double caliper discbrake including the accordinay fork from the third model of the TT 600.
The TT 600 3SW. Which is a definitiv upgrade! You can see the 3SW on the first page of this thread. It has the good brake and the suspension was adjustable in many ways.
The easiest way to get the three models right is to look at the brakes.
36A = Drumbrake
59X = single caliper
3SW = double caliper
These are the modelnames in germany. If the differ from the ones elsewhere... let me know!


Here you see the 3SW fork with black rubber and the 59X with red rubber. The caps on the top are different. (Airvalves )



The better picture from the calipers is on the netbook. I will attach that later

I am not sure I would be using 10.9 bolts in your sprocket carrier. I spent 3 years working for Ajax fasteners as a technical rep. The reason I am saying 10.9 is not the best for the sprocket is. 10.9 has a higher shear point than 8.8 and 4.6. Where 8.8 has ability to flex a bit and will bend before breaking. The 10.9 will give you no indication before failing. I have found the hard way in building sidecars that not to use 10.9 in where there is a side ways stress.

Sadly after leaving Ajax 20 years ago. I have only just started to run out of lock nuts and bolts I borrowed before I left. Those old gearsack bag can a lot when you have to drag them out the door.
