Leave it as drum brake

Most of your stopping power is on the front anyhow (80%) a drum rear in my opinion has a better feel (progressive) and less likely to lock up.
Only downside of a drum brake is when they get water in them, so if you think you will be getting it constantly wet then change it to disk.

The disk models also use this

to locate the caliper mount so don't remove it.

I agree with Mezo, leave the drum on.
Easier to maintain, quicker wheel removal & probably less unsprung weight (lighter wheel).

It's the bracket for the sidestand switch (so you can't ride off with the stand down)...



The stem is pressed into the yoke, sometimes they are very difficult to get out.... I would paint the yoke & save yourself some trouble...

I thought (assumed ) all the XT600s had a similar way to lock the brake mount
My 660 does.

Anyone in a position to weigh both drum & disk rear wheel assemblies?
Prove me wrong about that

Ok, didn´t looked pressed. I have seen other solutions where they are screwed in.

I´m almost in position with both rear wheels of but tires mounted.
The dirt tire is a lot heavier I think so it wouldn´t do justice weighing them.
The wheel guy take a £10 to take it off or on. £20 to do both.

But you convinced me, I think drum solution is less heavy.

And when we talk about drum...

OK I will try to keep the answer as simple as possible.

Some drum brakes will have a different shoe for the leading and trailing, thus two different part numbers (order 1 of each).
The Tenere uses the same shoe for leading and trailing. 1 Part number, order two of the same part.

The screen shot is saying that you need 2 pieces of the same part number, the qty is pre-filled with the correct number. Simple.
