Made an adjustment to the clutch basket today. The clutch had been very stiff and shifting was a very difficult thing to do. Well, we loosened the cables, took the cover off and loosened the lock nut at number 17 and pushed in the number 15 rod.



Previously Joel had set it to match what he was used to seeing on his clutch basket, but as he explained, the clutch on the Tenere is reverse to how his and many other baskets work. I'm having trouble imagining what he told me and then retell you all, but essentially the number 15 rod when new needs to be pushed in and as springs wear, it can be adjusted out of the basket. As it was the clutch was never fully disengaging from the crank so it made shifting very hard. After making this adjustment, for the first time since the rebuild I was able to truly say "wow, what a great bike this is." It pulled so strongly, shifted so effortlessly, handled so deftly, and cruised so gently. I can't wait to get my tank and plastics painted so I can finally put 6 gallons of gas in this elegant beast and continue the breaking in period beyond the limits of my Gatorade bottle gas tank. There had been some initial heating concerns at the cylinder as the fins became quite hot very quickly, but today as we drained the oil to take off the side cover we could see there was no discoloration to the oil, so no overheating was occurring. In short, Joel has done a flawless rebuild and he did it right the first time. The clutch basket was the only adjustment we needed to make beyond simple maintenance.

Well, my big investment arrived in the mail the other day

I've already scanned them, so now I need to measure their exact lengths and I'll start making vector files of these graphics and posting them to this forum for others to use. I'm sure it's against some law somewhere, but I don't see any of us squealing... Do it?

All that's left is to get the tank and panels to the painter and have him do what he does best. I've also got a front and rear caliper rebuild kit coming too. The front brake was dragging a little even with the new rotor on, so that needed to be taken care of. I still need to address the rat's nest of wiring in the front cowling and I need to weld up some front cowling plastic cracks and will need to do a second round of painting and stickering for that project. But at least now I have the decals so I can do it at my pace. About a year ago I put an HID light kit in place of the stock lights, but it was flickering at low speeds and outright turning off too, so I'm weighing the option of putting the stock lights back in...

Well that guy has copied Yamaha so i cant see him complaining there.

I understand working on engines is important and stuff but what's really important are colors. Like blue. And yellow. But mostly blue. That's why this is outrageously important. What color of hand grips should I get?

Dropping off goods to the painter Saturday. Should be done in about two weeks (so farkin hot here he can only paint in the early morning).

Blue will match the bike, but black will hide the dirt.
