WARNING!
If you use anything to tumble around inside the tank, make sure it is magnetic.
Because of the air space baffle at the top of the tank, you WILL NOT be able to get all non magnetic materials out.

How would a baffle work? Do those have a vent line attached to the carb or something like my KLR? Good info to bring up

There is a deep lip around the filler neck of the tank (baffle) which stops fuel splashing out, makes it a real pain in the arse to flush out the tank, ask me how i know.

With regard the drywall screws i had read guys tying them to string (an inch apart) so they can retrive them.

I've used the POR15 and it is good,it comes in a 3 part pack,1 a degreaser,2 a rust convertor and 3 the liner.These can be bought separately and you could just do the first 2 steps if you only have rust without holes.The rust convertor really works well and the inside is nice and clean afterwards.

Thanks, I'll get me snake USB camera in action and check out how big an issue it is, I recon its just a little around the tap area, POR15 (1/2 stage) and an external filter probably the best option.

Don't seal it unless its leaking andy......even then I'd be dubious about it...fucking stuffs a nightmare if it doesn't take....
I sealed a 250 lc tank and it was a disaster...found another reasonable looking tank..put juice in an it leaked...so washed it out with boiling water and washing powder an brazed it..
I'm now paranoid about tanks going rusty so much that my 350 I shove some realy oily premix in it over winter when I'm not using it.
Before I rebuilt it,it sat in back of garage looking a bit sorry for itself,but the half tank or so of premixed juice seemed to save the tank from rotting out..
Apparently padgetts had some brand new 250lcs that had been pdi'd but never sold,unfortunately some of them tanks were rusty and fucked despite being effectively a new bike..

I've checked the fuel tonight, no brown discolouring, looks like it could have been initial contamination with left over water in the tank, rust is surely (dcms) there but as marc as highlighted a possible future issue with sealing I think I'll leave as is, add a filter and make sure there's always some fuel in it, especially if winter storing.
