The early Tenere`s were pretty much raced "out of the box" but with the obvious factory mods, there were no flashy map rollers or any protection from fairings like on the later bikes.
Have a lookey
here on Ingo`s site, and the BYRD team were using a
TT600 "Tenere" (combo of the two bikes) so even though it says Tenere on the tank it is in fact a TT600, but again no flashy stuff on these early bikes.
It wasn't until the 1VJ/3AJ era & beyond when it went with the big fairings with twin headlights & then even further with the prototypes & shoving massive engines in to the frame, ahhh the glory days almost the Groub B`s of rallye bikes.
All a bit wish wash & wank today IMHO.

A good comparison to the group b cars,a mate of mine keeps keeps teasing me about the prospect of finding a super tenere, chucking the 750 engine and putting fzr 1000 engine in it,he informs me it's possible to get 140 up the hill out of end of town going to brighton on an old fzr.
I don't think he's thought through if it would be any good in the slippery stuff or not, probably just aim,pin it,hang on and hope...probably bit like one of them German things really...I'm not going to make any derogratory remarks in case we have germans here, and the fact they do like their xts over there..
Mezzo your right the modern 450 offerings are a bit wishy washy really and have done nothing to help with costs as the things are so highly strung and need constant attention from men in white coats in surgically clean conditions......not...well we can hammer the valve straight again, fucking clean that up with emery and chuck some rings in it and let the dog put it back together before carrying on..
These modern 450fs and even more so 250fs are just intended to be a bike for a season and no more...man with slanty eyes say long engine life no good for Japanese economy...make f.i.m and cronys change rules to increase costs...

Oh, and the film with Adolf and the C90 was already posted somewhere here.
There is a collection with various bikes available.
But... if you speak german and understand what Adolf is saying and what the english text below is saying... well, I think it kills the joke. Because I understand instantly the meaning of both (text and speeking).
ääähh... know what I mean?
