But without wanting to sound "racist" again, you have to wonder when the vendor said he "rescued it from some native chappy" :bag:

Id be running the chassis & engine numbers pass the old bill before i spent any money on a restoration.

Ask any Englishman reading this, would you buy a Tenere off a Pikey at your local gypo camp with no rego plate or documents, only if you want it taken from you by the old bill at a later date.

A very good friend of mine once bought an old Vespa in poor condition from a Vespadealer.
He didn´t check the "long gone" Papers.
Restored the Scooter to a "better than Vespa ever did them" -status :mike: and then wanted to get it on the street.
At the registration office they said: "Why? There is someone paying Tax and insurance all the time." (for many many years!) :surrender:
He left the building as fast as he could.
My friend played :sherlock: and got in contact with the PO, who ofcourse wanted his now recovered scooter back.
Long story short.... it ended in some nice new ID for the scooter... There is always a way...
Since I was very close to this story... I always check papers first.
One can´t imagine how strange things do happen.

The saga continues..... :surrender: It is a 1984 XT. It has had a semi professional conversion to a "Tenere" with the the addition of mounting points for big tank,Tenere seat and the tenere side plastics (good welds and respray in red). I did explain this to the Kiwi vendor in the Aldi carpark in Colac!!! :gator:

Said vendor was close to 2m tall and 150kg. :hulk: I had also already transferred half the money to his bank. He driven 2000kms with the bike and I had driven 250kms to meet him :tough: :hulk:

He was very reasonable and I dont believe he was the creator of the 'doppelganger'

It is now in my yard!!!!! What advice do the learned readers offer?
Do I break it up for parts?
Do I get it going and sell it on ?
Do I do a rattle can reno etc. etc.

It has not realy hit the spot for a "real" early Tenere. Would welcome any thoughts :thanks:

And you will miss the oil cooler attaching points.
I would keep it as spare parts.Or maybe converting it into this......

Well i was chatting with Danny about this last night over a few bevvies. :guinness:

Id keep the seat/tank and any 34L plastics you have, and then put the bike back to original.

Hey Bernieboy, I do believe i have found the other half of your 34L puzzle :shades: Tenere frame 39E000636, 49l motor but has BOTH sidecovers :star: Seller does not know it is a Tenere so keep that quite.

Well spotted! Did he send you the frame number? I am in Croatia and I have forgotten the engine number of my Doppleganger! Will see what to do!!!!!!!

Yes I asked about the frame and engine numbers, I was hoping to buy it if no one bid but he said he would keep it. He said it has speedo & tacho and right side cover. From the pictures it looks to have original front end including head light,proper swing arm, proper tail light, all these parts are near impossible to buy in Australia. There does not seem to be a oil cooler and I wonder what modifications have been made to fit the tank and seat. Like I said I would buy it if it was around the corner. P.S The rear wheel is buckled.
