During my list building I discovered that the front brake master cylinder on the brake lever has a stripped thread on 1 of the countersunk lid fixings...
I cant be the only one to have this so what do you experienced restorers do? The screw isn't stuck in there broken off, it just has no thread... and is a little oval in shape. Drill slightly oversize & re-tap?

You may struggle getting an MOT Kieth unless your mates with a tester? as for the screw on the master cylinder your not alone its common to see as they made them with a Philips screw & many a butcher rounded them off over the years, i replaced the whole thing on mine & got it from ebay USA for around $50.00 (master cylinder/lever) at the end of the day your front brake is critical when some donut pulls out in front of you.

Anyone of us here doing resto work should get a 5mm,6mm and 8mm set. You can buy Chinese knockoffs on ebay.
You should be doing the head/barrel threads as a matter of course as well as this is a known weak point and easy to strip.

Or, go down to your local bike shop and have him do it, shouldn't cost more than a tenner to get one hole done.

Never had any problems with getting an MOT in the UK with Kmh clocks 3 of my bikes have them
and never even got an advisory.
I agree with everybody else recoil is the way to go, saved many a restoration.
