The 3 grooves are for ID purposes. I will try to post some photos of 1st,2nd and 3rd generation gears next week.

I figured the grooves were to help oil from getting squished entirely out the sides and allowing some to be pushed to the next tooth through those grooves when the teeth are intermeshing . I think I said that right.

Well seems as Dave is a gearbox expert & owns a gearbox re-manufacturing company in Melbourne im not going to argue with him, not just yet anyhow. :lol:
