Nice! Sounds like the perfect option for me. My gearing is too high, esp considering the pitting of gears issue. It's got good top end, when you get there. I almost cracked 100mph (alledgedly slywink: ), but man did it takes ages to get there with me hugging the hell out of my tank, and probably a tail wind...

I'd happily lose 5-10 mph to gain acceleration & save gears. My 1VJ hates hills with a passion.

Hi
the ratio changed because the internal gearing ratio changed.
So it does not make sense to choose something in the middle of the ratios for both models - a 1VJ would be quicker with more rpm, and a 3AJ more sluggish with less rpm.

Wait, I thought the gears stayed the same through the 1VJ and 3AJ range? Damn this is confusing! But I know my bike is geared too high anyway...

I thought they only changed when the E-starts(3TB) came out (don't know about some of the 3AJ e-starts). I have 15/38 on my '88 and it pulls it easily , actually will give my hi-comp 3TB motor a run for it(which is 15-40geared). Any of these running 4k to 4200rpms @60-65mph (110kmh ?)should be able to pull easily , my '88 is only at 3200-3300rpms at those speeds without issue stock.
