Does it have MAGNESIUM stamped on the casing? if so dont alloy weld it.

yes it has magnesium on it, i thought the xt600 had alloy side covers?
(xt engine this is) all the one's i got have magnesium on them.
can i use liquid steel or something?

Yes ADV, thats why were all here. 
If you Google "welding magnesium" you will see its an art, if you give it to a mate of a mate that knows a bloke who can "weld alloy" you will end up with a fucked side cover.
JB Weld or something similar will surfice.

Got the shock back from rad shocky at moorooka mile it has a ktm spring apparently
thicker spring witch is good for my 120kg butt, got it powder coated and new bush fitted.

OK was playing with engine bits this week and organised the engine cases to be bead blasted and 2
threads helli coiled the bottom oil filter bolt as usual, well i was surprised when they came back!
dumb bastard!
he helli coiled the front of the hole mate!! so now i have to plug the back of the rooted thread so to not loose oil pressure,
and drill out the oil cover hole.
AND THEY LET THE NEWLY BORED CYLINDER GET RUSTY!
I have learnt one thing this week, do as much as you can yourself and learn as much as you can
to do the things you can't.
otherwise the cases look great, except for the crack which I'll fix myself.

this is oll smokey! motor got dusted i think huge clearance
and damage also high comp piston. junk now.
and look at the old oil pump! must have had low oil pressure
and the pick up was full of sealant strands, black bits blue bits clear bits
found a good one will use that, pulled it apart and cleaned it out and put
back together.

When I bring something to a shop and they say "no problem" I´m in high allert.
One should make a video from contact with the lad behind the desk.
Then, when they fucked it up, show it to them...

What happend this week Oli?..... 
There are two things i didn´t do on bike mech myself.
1) shock rebuild
2)Honing the cilinder
The rest I was the guy behind the bench.......
After the rebuild was done the pick up coil started to fuck up.....so a specialist was needed.....and trust me I was as you say! Preying......
they wouldnt fucked up completely.
As Oli said orgasmic shock!!!!!

for someone to half ass it like this, lately it's been worse even at work.
now for up date,
crack be gone.
gash be gone.

and the boats order turned up! shit getting done now!
got the crank been done at serco as we speak. 32 items in total
cable guides, chain rollers, rubbers, gaskets, etc.
and the new piston, 10.5:1 should wake it up a little.
for someone to half ass it like this, lately it's been worse even at work.
