Mezo, I think Ill stick with oem, or simlular. Mine has lasted a "long" time, with many hard kilometers on em. Theyre dying from lack of service, not because they're bad. And it could be hard to source thoose plugs when out on a trip in a foreign place, oem's would potentially be easier.

Also.... A friend of mine works with outdoor electronics. They get theese very expensive waterproof boxes to hide electronics in the ground. The first thing they do is to drill huge ass holes in em, to let water out. The thing is, liquid water cant get in, but moisture can, and because the plug is sealed, it will stay inthere, corroding things. And people tend to not look after plugs that are stated as being waterproff, because...well they're waterproof, what can go wrong =)

But I THINK I'll keep my wiring original, people tend to walk away from a bike with a hacked up/homemade electric system, even if its better.

Hi All
These connectors are commonly known as weatherpack and are commonly available world wide. They are very common on much of our agricultural machinery which is exposed to a lot of moisture and damaging chemicals and i can vouch that they are faultless. There is a DIY auto electrical supplier in the states who sells assorted kits of weatherpack connectors at very reasonable prices.

BTW Jens does your bike require a strengthening brace for the rear of the frame when you replace the standard exhaust with an alternative??

1996-xxxx doesnt need a brace, its buildt into the frame. Bikes up to 1995 need it.

Hi Jens, I'm a newbie here but have for some time been following this post as a guest. I have recently acquired a 2001 XT600e and would like to copy some of the modifications that you have done. One is to increase the ground clearance and ride height a bit (I'm quite tall too) and have been trying to find the measurements of the rear shock spacer/extender that you installed on your bike...any chance that you could measure it the next time you work on your bike? It looks like a fairly simply part to fabricate but it would be better to know the exact measurements rather than following a trial and error route. Thank you for all your very helpful and interesting posts!
