After the lessons learned on the robust XT 500 engine a new concept on suspension and frame was created, also a more flexible and reliable engine was created & the exhaust was of better design. Many features (especially the engine) where passed directly on to the 1983 XT600Z Tenere 34L.
Of interest is the CANTILEVER system for the rear swing arm using a monoshock,
it was used for only two years until it faded away.
