finally after waiting since 10/08/11 my xl600v 1996 model carbs turned up

69euro it's super clean

there's a few differences

had to remove the TPS sensor and a little bracket then it fits straight in, the only problem is i don't know what go's in
this little hole

if i block it up it floods, but it's sucking unfiltered air into the carbs somewhere
anyway it starts and runs much better now
it was a great cure for a bad case of mondayitis

Is that port actively "sucking"?
It may just be the atmosphere balance port for the constant velocity diaphagm.
It may be just supposed to have a tube going to the aircleaner, like the Tenere's have.

OK, we need the manual now, with a schematic of the carbs and vacuum pipes.
But I will take another guess and say that it may connect to the other carb in a balancing function.

The port at the top of the inlet is missing on the new carbs (Danjet, it stops a vacuum forming under the diaphram, allowing the diaphram & slider to rise).

If it were mine I'd attack the area I marked in blue with a bastard file & smooth out the air intake, once I knew it ran ok first of coarse

Can't blame you for not touching your carbs, I can't help tinkering & bringing more misery on myself, that's just me

If you want to see what a seperate filter looks like, your 600E might have one on it (later models have it, not sure about yours) it's a rubber tube joined to a metal elbow coming out the carb from the diaphram area with a plastic cylinder near the end of it, probably under the seat.

it's from a 1996 model, i can't find a parts fiche for this model
well next is to order is some tires and i've got a lead on the little plastic 90 deg fittings for the carby to fit the extra air filter thingo
what else, sticker kit, front caliper rebuild, new front brake pads, machined front disk, new/2nd hand clutch cable, and i need a 90deg 50mm stainless steel bend so i can mod the exhaust, get the seat recovered i'm thinking blue suede leather (mez's fault again ) mmmmmm what else? got to start the body work not my favorite task
