Re: Electric Kickstarter wanted
Hi there
that would be a XT600Z 3AJ then right? Check the engine number.
My picture shows both types

Top picture is 1VJ 1986-87, electrical connection on top of the starter motor.
Picture below ist 3AJ 1988-90, electrical connection on the side.
Possibly only the brushes are worn. In Africa, I would dismantle the starter and try to find help in sourcing something similar and make it fit.
The 1VJ part is not available any more
STARTING MOTOR ASSY, product number: 1VJ8180060
But you still can get a part for 3AJ or later models; https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xt600z-198 ... /0013.html
This should be STARTING MOTOR ASSY product number: 3AJ8180000, supersession part: 2VG8180000
It was also used in the later XTZ660 model.
You can order directly from cmsnl (Netherlands), prcie is below 400 Euro
https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xt600z-198 ... aj8180000/
Also you can get a brushes replacement, here is a picture, the brushes look simple enough to find a local replacement ...

Re: Electric Kickstarter wanted
PS the Tenere is easy enough to push start once you converted to a manual decompressor. All you need is a bicycle front brake lever and cable, to actuate the decompression lever. Kick until you feel compression, then pull lever and kick a few cm more. The piston now is in the optimal position to push start. Alternatively you can run the bike downhill (or get pushed), engage gear with decompression lever pulled, the release when engine is turning over.
Best wishes to Africa!
