Xt3ds... I checked that and its OK...
But I do have a spare if needed..

However!!!.. I put it back together without the starter motor attached and have a spark while kicking it over... No idea why now but its there..
But kicking it after a knee op isn't the wisest of ideas... 🤦‍♂️

And just to add variety the clutch has gone very stiff to pull, so lean it over and off with the clutch side panel later....

The pictures dont look loke corrosion to me, but a rubbing stator (bearings gone).
A machine shop may be able to fix that (not knowing what type of bearings are used).

Unfortunately the 1VJ engine has its very specific starter, later iterations wont fit plug&play
You CAN fit a 3AJ starter and mounts when using a 3AJ alternator cover I think (they may be easier to find).

The 3aj starter won’t fit on a 1vj engine case because the 1vj is missing two starter motor mounts cast in the case that the 3aj case has. That’s why the 1vj uses that funky bracket to connect the starter to the clutch side. Also the motors are different lengths.

1VJ starter motor is fitted via 2 bolts of the clutch cover, so those missing mounts could be made up for.
The different length on the gear side is why you would need the alternator cover to match. I think.
Also the electrical connection is in a different place, see my link.

Do you have a starter you can rebuild?
