hi all im new to the forum and am looking for help
im rebuilding a Yamaha yz426 ,when I bought a new clutch kit it wouldn't fit and on investigation it doesn't appear to have a standard clutch.
ive had no luck on yz forums and speaking to a few people in the trade it seems to have an early yam clutch.
the basket has a number[ 5y100 t-3 ]
the middle hub has [ 5y1 t-5 ]
and the top has [3yf ]
a Yamaha dealer tells me these numbers equate to an xt 550 he thinks
my problem is I don't want to order a clutch kit without being sure,
could any members possibly measure a friction and metal plate for me
id be very grateful for help
thanking you ????
ps can post pics if it helps

according to fowlers in Bristol 550 basket fits 500 and 550 only .
fowlers is a great resource for checking part compatability
just find your part and it tells you what other bikes that part fits.
realy I need plate measurements thanks

I expect I have a 600 clutch basket somewhere if you were close to Bath or Bristol you could compare

Count the teeth on the back as well.
Whilst the clutch basket might look exactly the same the primary drive might be different.
I had this whilst rebuilding my 1VJ. Clutch assembly looked fine but there was a little too much backlash. Got one with more teeth, problem solved.
Primary ratios changed over the life time of the XT600 motor.

Re: xt550 clutch on a yz426f
Friction plates: I/D=116mm, O/D=134mm, O/D (over lugs)=148mm
Steel plates: O/D= 134mm, I/D= 110mm, I/D(on lugs)=100mm
Thats on a 600, you say earlier that the top has a 3YF code, that should refer to a later 660 5v model
