Pickup / pulser coil

Post by Marloco »

Hi everyone,
I am on my second 3AJ project and have a presumed problem with the pickup coil. There is spark but it takes forever to start the bike then does not hold idle. i have put another CDI but nothing, same shit. the distribution is fine, checked everything, my feeling its an electrical problem. I cant find a new stator, they only sell those chinese new stators with the pickup coil for the 600E. Anyone knows where can I find a new pickup coil for the 3AJ model?

Your help is much appreciated

Have you checked the resistance of the source coil and the trigger coil?

Source coil which provides the power for the spark and charges the capacitor in the CDI unit is a separate wound coil in the stator assembly. Specs say 112 to 132 ohms at 20C. Heat it up with a hair drier and see if changes much or goes very low resistance. Might have bad insulation/ varnish on coil winding.

Specs say the source coil/ trigger should be between 92 to 138 ohms at 20C. again...heat it up and see if it stays close to that.

Thank you DZL,
is there any schematic of the stator showing the dedicated windings for each function? i have the feeling its the pulser winding, any idea what the pulser / pick up winding in ohms should be?
