WHICH MODEL IS IT?

Post by ZINTXO »

Hi hoping you can give me some advice on what model my XT is.

Bike first registered November 1996 XT600E. VIn/Frame number 3TB0224016 this number can be found on the riveted plate and stamped into the headstock along with another white sticker showing - E 1310R019. Another sticker on the crossmember under the seat shows 4PT3-050.
The top of the airbox shows another 4PT.

I need some new plastics either side of the tank or replace with an Acerbis tank. On speaking to Acerbis they suggested they could supply a tank but the side panels all 4 of them and the rear tail unit and seat would have to be changed! I cannot afford this so took the old plastics to Fowlers of Bristol who hold a large stock of spares.

After some time they identified the parts I need and showed me a side panel which was exactly the same as the old one I had but was showing on the PC parts listing that this was for a 4TB. Part numbers as follows 4PT2137W01 & 4PT2137X01. Fowlers said they did not list a 1996 3TB their list only went up to 1994. I have reserved the panels for now whilst I try and sort out what I have in the garage in bits.

I have been on to CMS of Holland who have a massive stock of spares asking them which model I have and there reply was Yamaha XT600E 1991 3TB3 EUROPE 213TB-300E1 This shows the same plastics as Fowlers but is listed as a 1991 machine!

I feel I have identified the correct plastics but before I go ordering any other parts would appreciate if you have any thoughts on what I have.
I previously posted a question about the Acerbis tank and that caused some confusion as to what would fit so it's all interesting (to me)
It may be that my bike is an earlier version and was sat around for some time before being registered or is just on the change over point who knows?

Also I seen a post by Mezo about the difference between 3TB AND 4TB but I lost it and cannot find the post again so if anyone can point the link out or list the differences again that would be great.

Keep Warm and Thanks

Well I have had a 1996 3TB in Black. I think you are confusing yourself .....I think you are saying that the 4PT part number is directly aligned to 4TB etc but the truth is part numbers can follow from model to model or be unique just to one model. There are 4PT part numbers that fit all generations.

From what I understand of your issue is that the xt600e ACERBIS tank is designed to fit the later plastics i.e. the last model finishing in year 2003 so hence the need for the later plastics.

If you look at the 3TB plastics at the top edge that lips under the seat the whole plastic is level whereas the last model it goes up to fit the tank.

I am pretty sure the last generation frames were also different to that of the 3TB so I I would question then if the mounting lugs for the plastics were the same and hence the ability to fit them.

good luck - look forward to hearing an answer :oilleak:

Thanks for the reply at my age its quite easy to confuse myself.

My XT is also black and I am almost sure the 3TB bits I have been show will fit but I am/was not too up to speed with the model so you comments very helpful. The plastics do indeed as you say, just go under the seat and are level when you look from the side.

I will post my definitive answer(s) when I know them.

Again thanks for you comments.

Just read David L. Advert - he is quite clear that if you ...."Can also fit 1989-1995 XT600E 3TB model if you also fit 4PT seat, side panels and tail piece"
This implies that fixings are the same but alignments of panels are different that it ripples though all plastics!

I have seen a black Xt floating around bristol - I will try and use my 1vj more often!
