Always keeping a eye on classifieds if a lost Xt pops up found this sad case here in CapeTown- the owner lost interest and left in against a bougainvillea hedge for 10 years . His wife decided it was time to be sold
Bought and shelved earlier in this year - just had to save it. As we had 3 teneres in a garage thats is full already i thought i will clean carbs replace rotten tyres and chain and ride it first then maybe decide to restore a bit. Oxidation on the whole engine and carb is pretty bad and i wire brushed some off but a few more hours required. Drain oil which fell out in lumps and changed the oil filter-did flush a bit with diesel just turning the engine over. Had a forks oil changed and seals replaced. Carbs were pretty gooked up and rubber inlet manifolds was cracked up- did some cleaning and sealing and fresh petrol- i think it started at kick number 15- magic machine. Motor was pretty healthy- a small sweat at the oil tank piping and the carb was leaking when idling- needle and seat stuck. Runs well- as my other 34L is getting new piston fitted i took its carbs and put it on XT3- perfect. It runs fantastic. Will in due course put on better 2nd hand plastics from my collection but for now we will just ride it. Frame paint has been touched up with different shades of red paint so looks pretty scruff but for now we wil ride--
