Hi Bosley,
I assume this happened with your new non brand starter solenoid. It links the starter motor directly to the battery with a plunger that joins 2 terminals when the solenoid is activated (push the starter button). Yours worked correctly the first time but remained in the down/on position after the starter button was released, keeping the starter spinning until the battery died. hitting the kill switch etc has no effect.
The plunger may be tight in its cylinder, it may have welded itself temporarily to the 2 terminals ( through poor quality copper not being able to carry the current) or it may have a little corrosion in the cylinder causing sticking of the plunger.
Did you find a Hitachi branded solenoid?. Also is the starter motor in good condition? It may have worn bushings/bearings causing it to draw higher current than normal putting more pressure on the starter solenoid.
Tom

Classic story of a stuck relay. Give it a few taps next time, and it will disengage :)
