Good morning good people in XT land

I have a question for anyone willing to read it.

Again, it might have been covered already but I have had no joy in locating it on the forum.

I have just treated myself to some new inlet manifolds on my 1988 3AJ, among other things as there is a round of French superbikes coming up on
the 23/24 of May at the the Vienne circuit, just south of Poitiers and me and a couple of mates are going, anyway back to the problem.

The old manifolds were shot, and fairly slid out, the new ones are much stiffer and are proving a problem to get back in, I have no manuel to refer to.

How can I get the new ones in without dropping the engine forward, do use a heat gun to soften the rubber on the manifolds, please help my weekend away is coming up fast and I don't have much spare time.

Just smear a little grease on the inside of the rubber inlets & push the carbs in, then fit the rear rubbers.

You may get away with sliding the carbs in with the rear rubbers still fitted? i found it popped out of the airbox though.

Thanks for the reply Mezo.
My issue is being unable to squeeze the whole carb assembly back in between the engine and the frame with the manifolds attached and not damage the manifolds.
The old ones were so flexible I could get them in and out no problem

Hi Brer

On my 03 xt i removed both sides of the airbox and pushed the rear airbox rubbers out of the way. I then pushed the airbox as far back as possible. I removed the rear brake reservoir bracket and pushed the reservoir to the side. I removed the right hand carb rubber from the engine and slid the carb out to the right. This worked for me and i intend to reinstall them this way ( obviously in reverse order) i dont know what model your xt is so maybe your airbox is different? Hope this helps

Nice one mezo. Had a feeling it was a different model to mine. Just re read brers post and seen that its a 3aj . Is there a lot of difference to an 03 ?

Cut away the welded wire on the left side of the frame. On the picture one can see it at the level of the intake rubber.
This modification gives you more space and it is not necessarily needed.
