Stripped screw problem

Any advice would be much appreciated. The 2 screws on my break fluid reservior are stuck tighter than a nun's .....! The screw heads are also a bit stripped. How do I get them loose without stuffing up anything??

Its very common to have seized screws, some guys on here have replaced the Phillips with hex head countersunk screws after finally getting them out.

You may well end up stuffing up your reservoir (be prepared for that) soak it first with penetrating & try an impact driver, failing that drill the top of the screw off & remove the cap, then use a set of mole grips on what’s left of the screw.

I recently had to drill out a screw that holds in the clutch shaft down by the countershaft sprocket on my 3AJ and it was my first time trying to drill out a screw. I used three or four different sizes of drill bits to incrementally drill it out. Most important is to go at it as straight as possible and not hit the threads, and to not use too large of a drill bit.

The damage to the exterior was from my attempts to use various vice grips and clamps to grab the screw and twist it off.

I recommend using the allen head countersunk bolts in the future for the brake reservoir cap, or purchasing proper JIS screw drivers, which are different from Phillips head screw drivers. JIS is "Japanese Industrial Standard" and all the screws on your 34L should be that standard.

Thanx for the advice. Drilled them out and replaced, sorted. Fairly easy in the end

I've tried different things to get sezed screw out off different bikes over the years, the simplest is a guy showed me is to use a small sharp chisel and a hammer, hit edge of the screw to put a indentation in it, then tap in the direction you want the screw to turn, it works every time.

^^ yup that's how I do it, a sharp pointed punch angled toward the "off" direction and some sharp hammer hits usually breaks them loose.
