Xt 600 tenere 34L no spark

Post by mserifov »

Hello i have XT600 Tenere 34L, i it is complete bike but it is bike from 1983 so it need a litle love. It is in very ruff shape.

But nothing is broken on the bike like no foot stand no light no exhaust, all is ther but it neads litle paint and polishing. I wount to do a restoration on this bike, but have very large problem for me. Bike dont have a spark and dont wount to start.

I check everything and everybody thins that is the CDI problem, but is not the pick up coil is gone, i am electronic man so i know thing or two about electric parts.
And on the pick up coil we have i two coils in one case, one for 12 degree one for 36 degree, and 12 and 36 coil need to have 120 oms +- 10 oms,
But only 12 coil have 120 oms the 36 is in short circuit.

My version of pickup coil and stator coil is this on the first picture of this tread.

I have two questions , where i can found or buy this pickup coil, and i why is so hard to find parts for this bike. I read that Yamaha XT have a very bad ignition system and is it possible to find good solution for me for this bike, that i have I everyday bike with good realable ignition.

I read on ths page http://www.transmic.net/en/yamaha.htm that is very easy to make a diy CDI. It is easy for me to make this CDI.

And i offer with FREE OF CHARGE at all (only parts to buy and postage ) for every member on this forum my service to make him DIY CDI. And test it for him and then send by post.

It is not problem to find primary ignition coil, it is not problem to rewind a stator coil, but the pickup is very nasty problem. That is only part of electrc system that is permanent problem it is gone. If anybody know solution for this pickup problem tell me please.

I am sory for my bad english.

Yes transmic has been mentioned on the forum before, top right corner of this page is the search, enter "transmic" :thumb:

Pick up coils are part of the generator system (sold as whole) so you would need to rewind old coils.

I put hot sodering iron on the pickup, i tray to cut out broken coil from plastic mass to see what is inside. And when i see that plastic is very very nasty i stop.

Just for last check u put my ohm meter again on wires and i have good resistance on both solenoid about 120 oms. I it is strange.

I put back everything on the bike, put fuel kick start two times and bike run like charm. 100000000% before i aplay the heat i have on 36 degree a short.

I cant upload the picture to see.

Tell me Mezo (thank you for replay) some on is in the power to destroy plastic on the pickup and rewinde the pickup solenoid.

A temporary fix at best, find some new pickup coils. It could shake loose any time and leave you stranded.

I cant find pickup coil same shape like mine it is not normal. I have 2 pickup coils from another XT model it is same shape of the body of coil same oms on the coil wire. But brackets are not the same. I have two like that.

I know that my pickup is temporary fix at best solution. I just need one ok 34L pickup. And what is the worst problem in the whole story tha pickup coil is the only part in all electric system that is hard to find or only part than no alternative.

Primary coil on the spark plug it can bee taken from any bike like this
CDI, you can tak any XT CDI and make it work or you can buy on ebay aftermarket CDI or make one by
Stator coil it can be rewind.

But for pickup nos easy solution.
