Carb tube dislodged and now nowhere to go - HELP!!

Hi guys
uhm, so I was taking everything apart today and removing inches and inches of crud, muck and stick. Suddenly noticed this tube from the right hand carb to somewhere in the engine hanging loose. I must have dislodged it without noticing. There are two nipples it would fit on the carb it came from (first pic) and apparently nowhere to go (second pic). In the second pic you see the tube coming from the left hand carb down to some part of the engine - that one attaches to a nipple down there.
So.
a. which of the two nipples on the carb should it attach to?
and
b. where on god's green earth is the other attachment for this tube????

(oh and less importantly c. what the dang is it?)






any help much appreciated as I don't think it will run this way and it is anything but obvious.

Until the pics are fixed I would guess it is just an overflow or a vent from the carb.

It should not effect operation of the motor, just a precaution to stop hot fuel from splashing on the exhaust.

And btw I guess an overflow sounds very likely - someone else said something similar. I just wonder how come the one from the left hand carb seems to attach to something?

I think you are talking about "51" and "53"

"51" looks like the carb bowl drain
"53" looks like an overflow pipe, stops your engine flooding if the float sticks. Not sure why you only have it on one carb .

Both usually pass down between the rear of the engine and swing arm and dangle free to air.
They are there to take petrol away from anything hot if your carb floods or if the drain screws leak.
As Actionman says, they don't affect the running of the engine.

Note the diagram shows the float bowls are reversed to what you have

thanks! looks about right. Must be an overflow on both and only one to check levels and drain becuase the carbs are interconnected I guess?
anyway - mostly sorted and less worried now - thank you all :)

edit oh and I think I have to go yank the end of the tube from the left carb and see if it actually attaches to anything or is simply stuck in crud (it felt like it, but from the above I guess it shouldn't be)
