Yeah, a right mess, how big I don't know till I strip the head and take a gander.

Got some rattle cans today to do the tank (awaiting decals) Got base coat RAL9016, guy suggested base coat, then, within 30 mins apply clear coat (apply to wet), dry, scotch pad, decals, clear coat. does that sound right? I surely need to apply more than one coat of base coat, so I'm guessing with tank primed dry;

base coat
1 hour base coat
1 hour base coat
30 mins clear
30 mins clear
dry and scotch pad
Decals
2 / coats clear

Jobs a good'un down the local for a pint by 12. :guinness:

they must have been in an awful hurry to not wait for a gasket
They would be waiting a long time. No gasket is used at that location, just thin smear of Yamaha bond.

So I stopped worrying and lo and behold, things did get worse!

Yamaha bond, having trouble getting local, (searching the web) is threebond a good alternative?

Three bond 1215 is the same product. I use it everywhere for the past 20 years.

Seat cover?

Well I decided to waste money in trying to save money and had a go at rattle canning the tank and side panels, all the usual problems, orange peel and a small lacquer run, I'm glad I did it thou, its not a restore and I feel if I sub out all the work I reduce any feel good factor, on the flip side its not that much cheaper, a lot of work and not top quality and my lungs are complaining too. Hopefully some cheapish new side covers will arrive on the market one day.

Seat cover? Reading mixed reviews here I'm unsure where to buy, anyone had success? [update, cover and air filter ordered from DL.]

Progress slow, waiting for parts and supplies. Seat foam coming from Kedo, for the cost it wasn't worth spending £25 on foam and making a right mess of it (contradicting myself). Spokes coming from Germany, Frame and parts await blasting and powder coat this week.

Head / cylinder Gasket part number?

Hi

I'm looking for a head gasket and I'm completely confused by microfiche part numbers.

Does anyone know if 1JK-11181-02-00 will fit a 34L. looks the same, just worried about 1JK.

Also, I've snapped a head bolt, I knew it was going to go by its springiness, now I got a 10mm stud to oil for a few days and stick it in the vice, hopefully that will work, if not I'm off to an engineering works as I'll wreck the head with my skills. New bolt from Yamaha I guess?

Some more photos of parts back from powder coat and engine break down. Do you think it needs a rebore? its pretty smooth, no real damage or am I blind :wakeup: .

If you read my post the other day on Svens 34L build i posted the link to head & base gaskets. :sherlock:

Here is how i find the parts,,,first i find the number from the fiche, then i put that number in to CSML`s website it automatically gives you the superseded part number which i then put in to Google but normally just Boats.net or Partzilla to find the cheapest supplier.

Only CSML`s site as far as i know gives you the superseded part number (the modern part number) if you understand me?

So yes that part is the correct superseded number.

EDIT: Regarding your bore, hard to tell on that from the pictures, sometimes its plain obvious its fucked other times its borderline & you may get away with honing it out, piston doesn't look too bad & at the end of the day its what kind of a job you want & how the funds are? personally myself (always skint) i'd try a hone first, or take it to the engine guy & ask his opinion. He may say i'll give it a go & see how it comes up & ring you back with the news either way.

The easiest way to remove that bolt is to weld a nut to it, leave it for a couple of mins then undo with a spanner.

Or you could wash & dry the barrel then put it in the oven for a couple of hours & undo it while it's hot.
Stilsons would be better than a vice because the more you pull the tighter they grip.

I used to be a two stroke nut, and that piston top looks like it's been very hot? Maybe ethanol blend fuel was used? Just curious smile:
