Another money pit.

Newbie in the den.
For some relatively unknown reason I bought a money pit yesterday, I think I bought it because I liked the wheels and I'm having a bit of a mid life crisis. I guess I should be happy as it could have been a big rusty car.
Its not the first worn out bike I've bought, 3 Hondas went before it, I buy the bikes, a crap load of parts, do nothing else then I sell it on at a loss so form an orderly queue. I am hoping though that the Yam might entice me to a project. IF, it happens it won't be a brand new wonderful machine that graces these pages, it would be clean, neat, tidy and cool, new plastics, paint and a few new parts. The usual questions will arrive if I can't find um stored here - plastic's etc.
Well that's the plan, it could well be up on ebay, whole or bits if it don't go and the fact I'm already talking negative isn't good. I need to get started, worst case scenario I get some money for it and I've had a bit of me time in the workshop.
The bike, it runs and rides, taxed and MOT'd, leaks oil and petrol, 27K miles most probably a lot more. Rev counter is ooo. It also feels like its hinged? like the wheels are out of line and loose, could be many things, hopefully not a bent swing arm as there are some bad abrasions here. Could well of been the tyres or the fact I just got off a F800GS.
Well thanks for looking and if I get a start I'll post some photos of progress or post an add to sell.

Not such such a money pit as you may think, wrong headlight surround, wrong left hand panel, wrong rear rack, a quick lick of paint & the correct graphics & your there mate.

I like your thread title..........................I just bought a 'money pit' yesterday too. Yours in far better shape than mine though, love those gold rims. Mine are a new colour.......corroded alloy What did it cost you?

Hi again, thanks for the welcome, price - £450, from the local freeadds wightbay.com. the going rate for any bike on its last legs.

Yes, there are some odd parts arn't there, thou I do prefer the rack to the standard, a more utility look. I'm gonna ban myself from ebay for a while, just to stop myself loading the bank balance and selling 6 months time for £500.
I guess I got to buy some plastics. Whoopie retail therapy time again.

There's a few around that have been saved from much worse than that......any noises from the gearbox when you ride it?.

Thanks for the offer and you got first refusal should the boredom monkey get me. Don't hold your beath thou it could take a few months and could possibily be in boxes. more -ives, I must try harder.

Reading and looking.....I feel the need to turn this bike blue, any issues? apart from the general lack of spares I guess its just paint, but are the decals for a blue bike as "easy" to get hold of?

yes I agree, sometimes alternatives, , are better, are cheaper, more abundant, , I guess its a fine line going away from the OEM, but I guess thats what makes them what they are, , if that makes sence. We improve but try to keep the lines / design. trouble is I need now find alternatives (me and 100's others) I just wish manufactuers woud cough up and play the white man now and then (non racist coment) and re run some old stock design. (we need a pigs might fly smilie). (oh and a I'm drunk and woffing, ignore me one too)
I think what I'm trying to say is YAMAHA Honda etc usually get it right first time (looks), the after market stuff surfices but is generally pants and not of the same quality / design. but thats all we have. ,,,,,I reallt need to stop typing now............

Number plates, yes, F'ing monsterous, only the UK can provide mental size plates, fortunatly we don't have them on the front any more, but give the mental lobieists ( sorry cant spell after all this beer) some room and we'll prob have huge front plates as well, it has been mentioned recently. I'm trying to see a benefit...yes there are lots, idenification etc, but not for bikes, we put smaller ones on but the old bill stop us, fine us.

Making a blue bike is easy, on my next 34L im doing the same, there is a complete aftermarket decal kit available for guys who own blue un`s & the paint codes are on the index page right down the bottom "Tenere paint codes"

Yep i don't miss them sodding UK plates one bit, like most guys i had a small one made up but got away with it every time (depends on the copper).

When i moved down under i brought my own personalised plate, i chose the colours & how i wanted it to look, you can have it in perspex or stamped alloy, and so cheap (think i paid $270 or 200 quid)
