My old man taught me when i was a nipper, it wasn't a toy though & i had to make valve seats, valve guides & bell mouths to earn my pocket money, when i was twelve the metalwork teacher was giving a demo to the kids on how to use a lathe & i was laughing at him, he said,,,"Oh i suppose you know how to use a lathe do you" still laughing i said "yes sir i do & as an experienced turner & miller its quite obvious to me that you don't, Sir" (classmates laughing)dunc wrote:My dad has a lathe. When I get back, I'm going to see if I can get him to teach me how to do this.
He said, "OK everyone Mark is now going to demonstrate turning" (with a smile on his face) thinking i was bullshitting, after my quick demo to my classmates the smile vanished from his face.
He pulled me aside later & asked how i knew how to do it? i said to him, "I work in my old mans machine shop sir, how else would i be able to afford to smoke"
