Longer rear shock on a 34L?

I have read on other forums about guys fitting TT600 rear shocks to XTs. They are 400mm compared with the 34L at 388mm. That 12mm at the mount should equate to a lift of around 30mm at the rear axle. Is that too much of a change? Will it twitch up the front end? This bike will be used for long distance touring with plenty of luggage.

any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Paul.

I think you will do okay with a approx 30mm lift at the axle, I know -Kedo- a european aftermarket supplier spesialising the XT model, supply the Wilber rear shock with an optional - permanent extension giving up to 40mm tail lift. Advertising it will be better performance during cornering and such, my only concern is the chain run at the swing arm . But you can lift the chain using bigger sprocket at both front and rear f.ex. 1 more tooth in front and 3 more at the rear should equal the gear ratio.

I have the shock, and its larger at the top than a standard shock, and I'll need to come up with a solution to get it to fit between the snorkels between the carbs and air box. You're right, it will look great!

I am in the process now to rebuild this White Power shock.If you look carefully the lower end has an hex bolt for extending it out.I have no problems on the air box zone.I will extend the hose another 10 cm to locate the cannister on the rear part of frame(like TT600)
