Re: Engine knock...

Guys, massive thanks for your help. I rode the bike last weekend and noticed more than the normal vibration on idle - it felt like something was out of balance. I stripped the clutch side again today and sure enough, the crank nut was loose. The tab was still in place and to touch it seemed tight ...

Re: Engine knock...

Hi Rick ...... no. I've always heard the problem is with the countershaft nut coming lose not the crank. The tab was over on the Crank nut and it shows no evidence of moving. Perhaps I should take another look. Is is a common fault? Mike

Re: Engine knock...

Hi all, I stripped the clutch and checked the countershaft nut this weekend. Not that, it was tight and just to be sure I used a liberal amount of locktite on assembly. Still knocks on idle and with no load .... frustrating. I think I'll just ride it!

Re: CAMSHAFT BEARING JOURNAL REPAIR

Thanks, that seems a potential option. Milling a few thou off the mating surfaces for each of the head and cam box would have the same affect. Then line bore back out to the correct diameter. As you said the camshaft would be slightly closer to the crank and thus a new cam chain would be required. I ...

CAMSHAFT BEARING JOURNAL REPAIR

I'm wondering if anyone has attempted to repair a camshaft journal. Al models run the camshaft directly in the alloy head. There are lots of heads for sale on ebay, most of which have worn camshaft journals where the alloy has picked up. I would have thought lack of oil to the top end would be the ...

Re: Engine knock...

Hi guys. I'm hoping my 1VJ is suffering the fault. It knocks at that point between being on load and being on overrun. Keep the motor under load and its quiet. On idle it sounds really noisy, but put it in gear and release the clutch a little and its lovely and quiet. I've just done 600 miles on it ...

Re: Top end rebuild, oil issue.

I'm coming in on this post a bit late, but my tale is worth telling.

I decided to do a full oil change on my 86 Tenere. I drained the sump in the normal fashion and while the bash plate was off I decided to drain the oil tank by disconnecting the oil feed at the crankcase. After it fully drained ...
