Re: Engine rebuild video

Perhaps the stator was still away getting re-wound (the one on my original motor needs this doing) when he felt like shooting the video.
Also, I winced a bit when he used the hook spanner on he timing 'thingo'. If I tried that I'm sure the bloody thing would peel off.

Re: Engine rebuild video

Good find Mark,
although he forgot the electrics (no wires coming from the flywheel cover).

Re: Need 1Vj clutch cover

Hi,
here is the 1VJ starter on the 3TB motor using the original mounting bracket from the old motor. You can see the unused boss with the arrow pointing to it. The other one is obscured by the motor. Also notice the angular displacement between the lugs on the starter and the boss, I originally made ...

Re: Carb Intake Manifold

I have a set of these cheap knock-offs on my bike and they work fine.

Re: Need 1Vj clutch cover

The lugs on the rear end of the starter are a bit different as well, the 1VJ starter lines up with the bracket and the later starter has longer, offset lugs that line up with the bosses on the crank case. I found this out when I fitted my 1VJ starter to my new 3TB motor, I made some spacers to go ...

Re: 1vj pick up

Hi, is it the pickup or the exciter coil on the stator the problem? The resistance of each timimg pickup coils should be 108 - 132 Ohms and the CDI exciter coil from the stator should be 112 - 158 Ohms. The three phase generator coils (to the regulator) should 0.72 - 1.08 Ohms.

Re: Fuel Taps

Well I bit the bullet and removed those worn bushes on the rear of the cases. The way that worked for me was to turn up an expanding Mandrell to grip the inner diameter then they just came out with a bit of a tap with a drift.

Re: CDI compatibility

Yes it is the same. The CDI is compatible, the later TCI came in with the 1990 model XT600E

Re: Fuel Taps

I think the swingarm bolt must have been loose on that bike for some time as there is a ring worn into the case bushes by the pivot bushes. I checked with the dealer and they are available but you have to split the cases to fit them.
All the best, Dave

Re: Fuel Taps

Yes I think I will keep the auto feature. The only part I can't seem to bufge is the post that holds the end of the spring, it is a splined shaft which is driven into the a hole in the cases. I might buy a new one if they are still available.
I had another look at the bushes in the rear of the cases ...
