Cut away the welded wire on the left side of the frame. On the picture one can see it at the level of the intake rubber.
This modification gives you more space and it is not necessarily needed.

3AJ's front and rear brake caliper are different.

If "the guy" managed to fit it, it seams to work.
Take a picture and post it, that we can see how he worked.

I think there was some 3AJ's somewhere in the world that had e-start and a kicker from the factory,


no - 3AJ with both are upgraded with the kick. It is the "easier way" to put a kick additional to e-starter engine.
But all the XT600Z Ténéré '86-'87, in Europe called 1VJ, had both factory ...

Your carburetor need a revision.
Change needles and emulotion tubes.
(Don't use swiss needles! They are only good for mountain riding.)

Does your bike cold start without choke? Change the starter set.

You need those parts twice:

starter set N198021
needle J8-5C19
emulsion tube 784-232301-Y-4 ...
