Yeb a fresh bore, piston and valveseals sounds like a good plan. Perhaps a fresh camchain while youre inthere.

The problem will be even worse at altitude.
See if adjusting the CO-screw/Fuel-screw IN wont cure the problem.

So, bike is using oil... Im spoiling it with a new piston + 0.25mm (actually 1.25mm compared to stock)
The endgap of one of the pistonrings was beyoud 1,10mm. The other was fine, thats weird.
Im pretty sure the cylinder was bored with too large tolerences when I last overhauled it, as the same ...

I would expect them to have some sort of threadlocker applied. So heat them up first.

except that the air screw was set to four and a quarter turns out from bottom! I reinstalled it as i found it but yesterday's ride was full of popping and a hot engine so today I adjusted the air screw in about a turn or so and got it to mostly stop popping. Runs much cooler too. But there's still ...

Classic story of a stuck relay. Give it a few taps next time, and it will disengage :)

Just helped a buddy with his xtz660 with a knocking sound.
When confronted, he said its been like that for about a year.
