1vj and 3aj right hand switch

Post by jibber »

Any alternatives? Preferably from a yam, I've got 6 or 7 that are all broke on the back where the metal clamp pivots, looks like a bad design.

I don't know about the UK but over here they used the same switch on a bunch of models for the starter switch. The common bikes you can get the switch for $10-$15usd on ebay, but it's $30 for one from an XT even though it's the same switch.

I was thinking along the lines of a different switch from an alternative model maybe, save having the problem happening again.

If you're not worried about authenticity then most switches can be made to fit as long as you can work out the wiring, just helped a mate who had fitted 600 bandit switches to a GS1000 engined Rickman.

What pivoting clamp
Got pics?

1vj and 3aj right hand switch

Post by GeoffD »

Hi Jibber... As Rick said you can use any switch provided you can sort out the wiring, you can pick up some bargains on eBay, I bought a pair of brand new genuine Yammy Xt125 switches for 12 quid for the 1VJ ... Couldn't fit the left one though cos I forgot modern bikes have the headlight on all the time, I didn't want that. I fitted TDM 850 switches on Tenere 2 & DT ones on Tenere 3

I reckon an Aprillia RSV switch would suit your needs, heres one for thirteen of your english quids.

I bet there are a few others that would fit as well.

See what you mean jibber :sherlock:

Later model 600E's, my XTZ & probably TTR's have a rocker kill switch & a start button same style as the high/low & horn buttons in Geoffs' pic of his left hand switch gear, the steel plate is held on by 2 screws & a tab that goes to the throttle mount top screw, can take a pic if you're interested.

If you just want authentic Yamaha, that RSV switch looks your best bet
